Guideposts to Happier Living

We all must have guideposts to live by. We try the hodgepodge system and become hopelessly lost. The heart was meant to feel its own happy tempo in life with The Creator.
We have winter, the happy awakening of spring, and the full realization of summer. This is nature’s cycle. So it is with us. We follow our cycles, too. We were meant to get lost, to seek then the lighthouse of The Creator’s living. We must seek and find all our lives. This is one of our guideposts to happier living: realizing that when we are temporarily lost, it is not because our Creator has shut His door on us. No, He knows that He must constantly refresh us in His waters. If we were not famished for His waters, could we fully realize their therapy? He, in His goodness, gave us contracts in that we have a good-bad, love-hate, and loyalty-disloyalty.
If it all flows to us in abundance, would we look inward? Look at some of your most fortunate of people - fortunate, that is, in the material of this world. They are existing in a so-called Shangri-La. Are they happy, or do they resemble squirrels in a cage?
So obviously our Maker knew what He was about when He planted a seed of soul growth within us. So be not dismayed when momentarily we are blinded by our own shortcomings. Just turn inward; the answer lies there. Ask The Creator to let you follow His path. Soon you will be trodding on The Creator’s path again, guideposts clearly pointing the way.
This you must remember: there isn’t a human being walking the earth, humble or great, who isn’t following this pattern. So have faith; you are not alone in your dark moments. Every man who has passed your way has carried the same problems and has had to seek his own salvation.
There are too many real dangers we must face to waste our energy on fighting ourselves. “Know thyself” is a wise proverb. Yes, learn to know the inner working of yourself. Get at peace with the soul. It is not easy, this task, for we hold on very desperately to our weaker selves.
It is hard to throw off a bad habit and give birth to a positive new one. The Creator Knew of this; that is why He gave us soul growth – to sustain us in all of our “re-embarking”. Once you learn to live without the crutches of self-excusing, you will be well on the way to successful living.
How many of us find ourselves believing that all we construct is perfect? Next time we see this trait in ourselves, we should check it and examine it in the critical eye of our worst critic. Then we will start a balance in ourselves. Be as kind to others in your judgment as you would want them to be with you. On the other hand, turn the fault finding inward. It is the perfect answer to mastery over self.
Self-mastery is one of the hardest of taskmasters, but there isn’t a successful man alive who didn’t first have to whip “the inner man” into shape.
We, in this day, are very conscious of the irritations of everyday living. The delays, the endless putting up with what we term the stupidity of “others,” the increased tempo of our living, the pressure produced by a world bent on glorifying the material, leave men exhausted and spent. Man may well inquire, “How can I remain serene and calm in the face of all this?” True, it is not easy. Our Creator did not promise us an easy path to paradise. He told us it would be filled with rocks, thistles, and thorns. He also gave us an inner power to help us over the obstacles, to rub balm on our lacerations.
He gave us a faith, an undying zeal for good. He gave us all we need to sustain us. He doesn’t tell us to knock and He’ll let us in; He would say, “Open the door and let yourself in. I am waiting for you."
